A metal needle piercing both the upper and the lower lip is the climax of the two hour long Sultan Nevruz or the Zikr ceremony, which the members of the Rifa'i dervish order dedicate to the spring and to the birth of Ali al Murtada towards the end of March every year. Besides the prophet Mohammad, Ali al Murtada is thought by the dervishes to be the first of the twelve imams. The Rifa'i are also one of the 12 orders of dervishes that currently exist in Kosovo.

The amateur theatre in Gnjilane, which now operates in the nearby village of Ranilug, has been gathering and instructing dozens of enthusiastic adults and children in the art of acting. As for the actors, their ages vary greatly - from as little as ten years old, to as old as 78, a record held by Đorđe Stojanović.

For five years now, the Serb community of Novo Brdo, a town in eastern Kosovo, has been organizing an event called "Novo Brdo - Zlatni grad (the City of Gold)" . The city was an important commercial and cultural hub in the Balkans in the 13th and 14th centuries, and one of the biggest cities of its time in the region.

From November 2 to 8, the Priština Theatre hosted the first-ever Kosovo International Theatre Festival, gathering stage artists and audiences under the slogan “Singing, Music and Ritual.” The repertoire featured the local productions “Performance” and “Qifti Martin,” as well as performances from theatres in Italy, Austria, Ukraine, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Belgium.

Founded at the end of 2002, the private company Oda continues to be among the most productive institutions in the realm of theatre in Kosovo. The lack of funds, insufficient premises for theatre activities, as well as other barriers hindering private cultural institutions in Kosovo, did not bring the founders Lirak Çelaj (actor) and Florent Mehmeti (director) to their knees. On the contrary, they continue to produce new plays attracting enthusiastic audiences.
