"The Southeast Europe: People and Culture" photo competition was officially closed on 20 January 2010. Having received some 3200 photos from all over Europe, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the competition and shared their vision of the region!

Come and join Southeast Europe: A Cultural Journey!

This spring, an eclectic group of musicians, writers, filmmakers and culinary artists will be presenting the culture of their region through an exciting programme of live events in eight European cities.

From 17 - 28 March the journey will take you through Germany and Austria

Nuremberg Passau Linz Salzburg In May and June, it continues with events being held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

A NOVEL THAT TOOK 40 YEARS TO WRITE IS SOON TO RECEIVE A SEQUEL

In the year of 1968, the novel Ugursuz announced Nedžad Ibrišimović to Bosnia and Herzegovina's literary elite. Not yet 30, Ibrišimović, a veritable literary discovery, became a laureate of the prestigious Sarajevo April 6 city prize. In the years that followed, Ibrišimović continued to write and publish books, many of which were adapted for the stage, also penning several plays of his own.

BJ NEVENKO - EXPLORATION OF BALKAN SOUNDS

BJ Nevenko is originally from Petrinja in central Croatia and moved to Graz, Austria in 1991, shortly after war broke out in Yugoslavia. Starting out as a journalist, Nevenko’s passion for music eventually took over and he became a pioneer of a Europe-wide movement that is re-interpreting traditional Balkan sounds. His Balkanica DJ nights have been electrifying audiences in Graz since 2004 and his current band, La Cherga – a seven-piece outfit combining acoustic drums, strings, percussion and vocals with electronic beats – seem to be almost continuously on tour.

WHO NEEDS REMONT?

In 2009, the Remont Independent Art Association celebrates its tenth anniversary. Founded in 1999, the organisation's goal is to promote contemporary art in Serbia and link the domestic art scene to international trends. After a decade of efforts, however, the association's web presentation is still pointing to the dire situation on the country's art scene and greeting visitors with an alarming question: "Who needs Remont?"
