PHOTO COMPETITION ONLINE VOTING

"The Southeast Europe: People and Culture" photo competition was officially closed on 20 January 2010. Having received some 3200 photos from all over Europe, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the competition and shared their vision of the region!

Now, it's time for YOU to vote for your favourite. The jury has selected the top 24 photos. Which one do you prefer? Have your say and vote for the photo that you think deserves to win the Public's Favourite Award.

A CULTURAL JOURNEY - LAUNCHED!

Come and join Southeast Europe: A Cultural Journey!

This spring, an eclectic group of musicians, writers, filmmakers and culinary artists will be presenting the culture of their region through an exciting programme of live events in eight European cities.

From 17 - 28 March the journey will take you through Germany and Austria. In May and June, it continues with events being held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

A NOVEL THAT TOOK 40 YEARS TO WRITE IS SOON TO RECEIVE A SEQUEL

In the year of 1968, the novel Ugursuz announced Nedžad Ibrišimović to Bosnia and Herzegovina's literary elite. Not yet 30, Ibrišimović, a veritable literary discovery, became a laureate of the prestigious Sarajevo April 6 city prize. In the years that followed, Ibrišimović continued to write and publish books, many of which were adapted for the stage, also penning several plays of his own.

BOBAN AND MARKO MARKOVIĆ: THE TRUMPET AS A WAY OF LIFE

The Boban & Marko Marković Orchestra is not only the most famous brass band to emerge from the Balkans, but is also, alongside Goran Bregović and Emir Kusturica's No Smoking Orchestra, one of Serbia's top stage wonders. Named and led by father and son, the Marković Orchestra combines traditional Serbian and Roma music, jazz, funk, and other contemporary music genres, with masterful trumpet playing and an electric stage performance.

WHO NEEDS REMONT?

In 2009, the Remont Independent Art Association celebrates its tenth anniversary. Founded in 1999, the organisation's goal is to promote contemporary art in Serbia and link the domestic art scene to international trends. After a decade of efforts, however, the association's web presentation is still pointing to the dire situation on the country's art scene and greeting visitors with an alarming question: "Who needs Remont?"
