Her play entitled Peacekeeping Mission won the competition organised by the Theater Epicenter in Zagreb, which is the theatrical centre for central and south-eastern Europe, together with the Company of Angels Theatre from London.

The group of players in the production of The Lexicon of YU Mythology (Leksikon YU Mitologije), directed by Oliver Frljić, is made up of Macedonians, Albanians, Croats, Slovenes, Montenegrins, and a Serbian. For Mišo Obradović, a young actor from Montenegro, this was his first co-production under the auspices of the New European Theatre Action (NETA), which brings together theatre companies from the region.

A metal needle piercing both the upper and the lower lip is the climax of the two hour long Sultan Nevruz or the Zikr ceremony, which the members of the Rifa'i dervish order dedicate to the spring and to the birth of Ali al Murtada towards the end of March every year. Besides the prophet Mohammad, Ali al Murtada is thought by the dervishes to be the first of the twelve imams. The Rifa'i are also one of the 12 orders of dervishes that currently exist in Kosovo.

“I hope that the prize from Užice will open new doors for other stages in other theatres in the region”, said Ana Vukotić, 33, the young theatre director from Montenegro. Ms Vukotić won the Ardalion prize at the 15th Yugoslav Theatre Festival in Užice (Serbia) for her direction of Molière’s Don Juan.  Ms Vukotić competed for the prize with some of the great names in the region’s theatre world – Goran Marković, Oliver Frljić and Gorčin Stojanović.

A place with a soul, is what admirers tend to call Sarajevo's Youth Theatre. A place with an identity of its own, this institution is one of those special spots each city has. Its history began in 1950 when two theaters were founded in Sarajevo: the Children's Theatre and the Puppet Theatre. Founded at the end of 2002, the private company Oda continues to be among the most productive institutions in the realm of theatre in Kosovo. The lack of funds, insufficient premises for theatre activities, as well as other barriers hindering private cultural institutions in Kosovo, did not bring the founders Lirak Çelaj (actor) and Florent Mehmeti (director) to their knees. On the contrary, they continue to produce new plays attracting enthusiastic audiences.

‘KOLO’, the Ensemble of Folk Dances and Songs has maintained the tradition of Serbian folk music and dance for over 60 years. The Kolo dance can be regarded as a trademark of Serbian culture and holds considerable social significance, being customary at weddings and other major celebrations. The Ensemble chose the name to demonstrate the socio-cultural importance of this form of dance. Traditionally, the dancers form a circle, holding hands, which may appear to be similar to a kind of magical ritual. They turn their backs on the outside world, shielding themselves against evil spells. The performance of the dance is thought to facilitate happiness, welfare, fertility, and a good harvest.
